Sex Offender Sweep A Success
State police consider the annual sex offender registry sweep that ended Halloween night a success.
Sgt. Kevin Dowling of the Negaunee post says about 130 people in Marquette County that are on the state registry were checked at random.
They only found one who was violating the registry laws, so he considers the effort a positive for local law enforcement.
People convicted of any sex crime in Michigan, felony or misdemeanor, have to turn in their current address to police in the first 2 weeks of every year, and then again during the year if they move.
The goal of the sweeps is to see if the addresses are accurate.
Michigan felony sex offenders also have to check in with local police 4 times a year.
