Update: Semi-truck overturn causes lane closure

UPDATE — Thursday, October 6, 2016 7:30 a.m. EDT

More details have been released in regards to the semi-truck that over-turned early Thursday morning.

The semi-truck driver, a 51-year-old Milwaukee man, was traveling northbound on M-35 when he fell asleep at the wheel and struck a mailbox.

He over corrected his steering, causing the truck and trailer to overturn. His load of shredded tires was spilled onto the roadway.

The driver was transported OSF St. Francis Hospital by Rampart EMS. He will be cited for careless driving.

For now, the lane closures are still in effect as crews work to clean up the scene so you can expect some delays if traveling in the area.

Assisting on the scene is Ford River Fire, Ford River EMS, Delta County Road Commission and Gene’s Towing.

FORD RIVER TOWNSHIP — M-35 is currently restricted to one lane as a semi-truck overturn gets cleaned up.

Deputies from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office say they were out on the highway near Breezy Point Bar earlier Thursday morning after a semi overturn was reported.

The semi was carrying shredded rubber, which spilled onto the roadway.

Deputies are encouraging motorists to use caution when approaching the area and to be alert for traffic controllers.

Clean-up crews are in progress to clean up the scene so both lanes can be opened back up.
