Semi flips over on Mackinac Bridge

A semi-truck flipped over on the Mackinac Bridge last night causing the bridge to close for close to three hours.

A forty-nine-year-old man from downstate in Hastings was driving the truck around 9:15 p.m. when a large gust of wind lifted his rig off the ground and flipped it over on it’s side where it rested against the guard rails. As a result, the man was then trapped inside the vehicle for a short time before officers on the scene were able to help him to safety. He was not injured during the crash, and no other vehicles were involved.

Michigan State Police Troopers from the St. Ignace Post were assisted on the scene by officers from the St. Ignace Police Department, the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department, the Sault Tribe Police Department, the Mackinaw City Police Department, the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, and the St. Ignace Fire Department.
