Second accident in same location within one week

MARQUETTE — The location of U.S. 41 at Brickyard Road, Marquette Township has seen two car accidents within days of each other.

The June 2nd incident involved two cars and an entrapped passenger, while today’s was a three-car accident that cut U.S. 41 down to one lane for almost an hour.

Investigation revealed that an Eastbound 2006 Hyndai, Elantra, Sedan, driven by Clifton Howard, 23, of Marquette, rear-ended an eastbound 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck driven by John Clements, 66, of L’Anse, as he was stopped at the red light.

The force from that crash led the Silverado to hitting another vehicle, an Eastbound 2003 Mazda, Sedan driven by Richard Cox, 63, of Ishpeming.

This crash resulted in Howard being cited for violation of basic speed law as the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Marquette Township Fire/Rescue and UP Healthy Systems Marquette EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.
