Search for Suspected Drowning Victim

A likely drowning is the news tonight from Menominee County.

Search and rescue teams are still trying to locate a man who fell into the Menominee River last night just after 9:30.

The Menominee County Sheriff’s Department says the 48-year-old unidentified man from Wallace was fishing on the river bank when he fell into the water.

Police say several factors contributed to the accident, including cold water temperature, depth, darkness, speed of the current and alcohol use.

Five boats were used during the search operation last night.

A Coast Guard helicopter from Traverse City was called in.

The search for the man is continuing.

His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
