ISHPEMING — Last August a local school district accepted the resignation of it’s superintendent and started searching for a replacement right away. Ishpeming Public Schools have been searching for a new superintendent and have narrowed down their search.

Interim Superintendent and Business Manager for Ishpeming Public Schools says, “So we’ve searched for a little over a month, and now we have narrowed down our candidate pool from 15 applicants down to five. We interviewed two last night, and we’ll be interviewing three more this evening.”

Bertucci says the group of remaining candidates are mostly locals from across the U-P… some from within the school district itself.
He says that the school board is close to achieving it’s original deadline.

“Well the board’s original intent was the have someone employed for the first of November,” Bertucci added, “I think we’ll be close to that date. It will probably be the first week or two of November, but they hope to have someone in place as soon as possible.”

Bertucci says that he feels confident the district staff will pull together to support the new superintendent and one another during the upcoming transition.
