GWINN — Gwinn Area Community Schools has an opening on its board of education.

The school district accepted the resignation of board member AJ Filizetti, effective on August 9th. They now have 30 days to fill the vacancy.

“Anybody new coming on to the board is going to have to understand the critical needs and important issues that face most school districts,” said GACS Superintendent Tom Jayne. “That will be a very important position to fill and we don’t take it lightly. We actually interview those candidates that apply and then we have the ability to choose one.”

Those interested in applying for the open position are asked to submit a letter of interest to Ronald Lauren, the Board of Education President. The person hired to take over the seat will have to run in an open election in November of 2016.
