Sawyer International Airport officials say in a statement that the airport’s air traffic control tower will close on May 5th.
Five employees will lose their jobs.
The Federal Aviation Administration is closing 149 air traffic control towers nationwide that are operated by subcontractors as part of the federal budget sequester.
Sawyer’s tower is one of three in Michigan that are closing.
