Sawyer Airport Working on Long-Term Plan

Marquette County commissioners and advisory committee members are looking at a long-term plan for Sawyer Airport.

They’ve hired a planning form to work up a 20-year projection of its future.

It goes over possibilities for use, development and needs.

The FAA requires airports to do this, but it’s also chance a chance for Marquette County to get a clearer development picture.

A final plan won’t be ready until early next year, but some possible recommendations are in the works.

The planners say one of Sawyer’s selling points is that because of its days as Sawyer Air Force Base, the airport’s infrastructure is much bigger than what it currently needs.

They say that could help spur more development.
