Salvation Army Free Backpacks

Michigan K–through–12 students are heading back to school for the year in four days.

Many parents and even some grandparents are rushing to obtain school supplies, but not all families can afford new backpacks and items to fill them with.

The Ishpeming Salvation Army helped with that today.

Lt. Stephen Hansen says the organization distributed more than 200 free backpacks so that kids can have an easier time in the classroom.

The filled backpacks are the result of community donations that are solicited every year.

Registration is required to receive one, but no one who registers has to disclose their income.

The Ishpeming Salvation Army is still accepting backpack donations.

They say that once school starts, they often hear about other area kids that still need supplies.
