Lions Clubs and contractor donate and build safety stations at local parks

MARQUETTE — A local organization spent the better part of their day outside in an effort to prevent aquatic tragedies from happening in the future.

The Lions Clubs of Marquette County constructed safety stations at three different locations at Little Presque Isle Pointe. The wood materials for the project were paid for by the organizations.

Each of the safety stations will have equipment that people can use to help save someone having trouble in the water, such as lifejackets, rings, ropes, and more.

“Lake Superior is a dangerous lake and there was some bad drownings over at McCarty Cove and they put these safety stations in and they haven’t had one since and we just thought that it needed to happen out here as well.”

Dan Perkins Construction donated the roofing materials for each of the stations.

The Marquette City Fire Department, Northern Michigan University, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources came up with grant money to provide the safety equipment for the stations.

The safety stations are expected to be ready for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend.
