Police in the Keweenaw are asking for the public’s help locating the owner of a safe that was found in a river in northern Houghton County.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post say the safe was found yesterday in the Trap Rock River near Bootjack Road.

The safe was underwater and appears to have been submerged in the river for some time.

Its bottom has been cut open with a blowtorch, and police say it did not have any contents inside when it was found.

The safe is about two feet high by two feet wide by two feet deep, and it has caster wheels.

State Police say they did not turn up any reports from other area law enforcement agencies of a similar safe turning up missing, so if you know anything about the safe, they’re asking you to call them at the Calumet Post at 337–5145.
