HOUGHTON — An escaped inmate who was on the run for almost an entire year will soon be back in the Upper Peninsula.

John Saatio will start his journey back to the U.P. sometime this weekend, according to Houghton County Sheriff Brian McLean. Saatio is currently being held at the Harris County Jail in Texas.

An independent transport company will bring him back to Houghton, where he’s wanted on various charges, including home invasion and destruction of police property. Saatio escaped custody from authorities in Houghton last June.

The 35-year-old was captured twice by officials in Costa Rica earlier this month, before being extradited to the United States.
