BIG BAY — Cross Country runners from Ishpeming High School are preparing for the upcoming season by spending some time with campers at Bay Cliff.

The team arrived in Big Bay early Wednesday morning to spend a few days of bonding and training with people staying at the camp. It’s all part of Bay Cliff’s Upper Peninsula Sports Camp, which allows disabled young adults to participate in various sports activities.

The special needs athletes were each paired up with an Ishpeming athlete and they ran a mile together.

“It teaches them a lot of respect for all different types of people,” said PJ Pruett, head coach of the Ishpeming XC Team. “This is a special place. We’re here camping with them and sharing Bay Cliff at the same time, but yet working out together.”

All of the special needs athletes participated in the mile run or walk. The Ishpeming Cross Country Team will spend time with the campers again on Friday, followed by more training at Bay Cliff through Saturday morning.
