UPDATE — Wednesday, August 17th, 2016 9:00 a.m. EDT

Escanaba Public Safety officers say that thanks to their investigation in cooperation with the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, the three suspects arrested in connection to the armed robberies in Chocolay Township Tuesday morning have been linked to the armed robbery of the Quality Inn and Suites in Escanaba on Monday.

Detectives from both agencies identified the connection after conducting interviews, recovering evidence associated with the robbery, and obtaining security videos from various locations. The three suspects remain lodged in the Marquette County Jail awaiting arraignment in Marquette County District Court. Escanaba Public Safety detectives are in the process of completing their investigation so formal charges can be sought through the Delta County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office as well.

UPDATE — Tuesday, August 16th, 2016 12:00 p.m. EDT — Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office have released more information on a series of armed robberies that happened Tuesday morning in Chocolay Township.

Deputies say the robberies began around 6:15 a.m. Two men dressed in black clothing and masks entered America’s Best Value Inn on M-28 and demanded money at knife point from the clerk. The clerk, whom police say is a concealed pistol permit holder, refused to comply and pointed his pistol at the suspects. The two men then fled on foot to a waiting vehicle while the clerk dialed 911 to report the incident.

The suspects then fled south on US-41. Around 6:20 a.m., a 911 call was received from Kassel’s Korner on US-41, indicating that two customers at the store had been robbed by two men wielding a knife and a baseball bat. Those suspects fit the description of the two men involved in the earlier incident at the inn.

Police were able to obtain a description of the suspects’ vehicle, which was pulled over a short time later on US-41 near Heidtman Road. Three suspects — two 18-year-old men and one 22-year-old man, all hailing from Delta County — were taken into custody without incident.

The three suspects are lodged in the Marquette County Jail. Cash was recovered after the arrests, and the investigation continues. The incidents remain under investigation.
