Rio Tinto response to potential Eagle Mine lawsuit

Rio Tinto officials have responded to the intended federal lawsuit over the Eagle Mine.

The lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency would concern alleged violations of the Clean Water Act at the mine site.

Dan Blondeau, a communications and media relations adviser with Rio Tinto, has released a statement.

It reads, “Regarding the potential lawsuit being brought to the EPA, Eagle remains in full compliance with all state and federal permitting requirements. I defer to the EPA.”

The group Save The Wild U.P. and Keweenaw Bay Indian Community member Jeffery Loman recently filed a 60-day notice to sue the EPA.

They have until August 23rd to follow through with their intended lawsuit.
