“Relay for Life” Breast Cancer Fundraiser

The battle against Cancer is one in which everyone can make a difference.

“Relay for Life” organizers are inviting everyone to come out and participate or just show support for this 24-hour, non-stop, walk-a-thon.

“Relay for Life,” is in it’s 10th year at Northern Michigan University. The international movement is home to about four million participants in 20 countries around the world.

More than 50 teams are participating in the annual event at Vandament Arena, which kicked off today at noon and goes until noon tomorrow.

Teams brought plenty of games and activities to keep themselves busy as the rules stipulate at least one team member must be on the track at all times during the 24-hour activity bonanza.

“A lot of spend the night here, we turn the lights down at 2:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m., so everyone can take a quick nap and then we get moving back to full pace.  Even when the lights are out, people are still walking around the track.”

Scheduled activities include speakers, basketball, karaoke and even a frozen t–shirt contest just to name a few. The fundraising goal for this year’s event is 25–thousand dollars, and they’re close to meeting it.
