Reed Larson to walk-on at CMU
When it comes to recruiting, college football coaches all have their different ways and methods to try and land that coveted prized recruit.
Coaches look for certain players to fit their own systems and philosophies. But when it comes down to it, coaches want guys that will produce positive results from end zone to end zone.
Reed Larson from Kingsford is one of those players. The Flivvers running back was a force on the field during his time as a Flivver.
This past season, Larson was named the Class ABC Offensive Player of the Year by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. Larson racked up over 1400 yards and 20 touchdowns carrying the ball for Kingsford.
After a successful senior year, Larson is taking his football talents below the bridge to Mt. Pleasant, to walk-on and play for Dan Enos at Central Michigan University
“My brother is going down there, so that was a big contributor to my decision,” said Larson. “I just really like the coaching staff, the facility, and it looks like it will be a great fit for me in the future. Hopefully I will be able to benefit the team anywhere that I can, whichever way I can help Central score some points. Fire Up Chips!” Larson added with a smile.
Speaking of big, bruising backs, Kyle Root from Sault Ste. Marie definitely fits into that category.
Root was the lone Northern Michigan University commit to play in the all-star game on Saturday. And Root is ready to contribute at NMU any way he can.
“He (Coach Ostrowsky) hasn’t really told me, but I think I am going to be red-shirted,” said Root. “I’m coming up here to play H-Back; I wanted to stay home and this (NMU) just felt comfortable,” Root added.
Root is one of two U.P. recruits that will play football this fall at NMU. Jared Vuksan from Gladstone is the other future Wildcat.
Root’s teammate at Sault Ste. Marie, wide receiver Ray’shon Anderson, who was the East Team Offensive MVP on Saturday, is playing basketball, not football, this fall at Alpena Community College for the Lumberjacks.
