Marquette softball Redettes prepare for regionals
MARQUETTE — The Marquette softball team ran into some speedbumps late this season and they are kind of glad they did.
The Redettes started the season 22–1, then lost four in a row to Escanaba and Rapid River. You never want to lose, but the team knew they needed to face some adversity to get ready for the playoffs.
“I kind of say it coming. We were just kind of hitting that middle-to-end-of-the-season rut where we were just kind of going through the motions a little bit and the energy level wasn’t there. And we were dealing with a couple of little injuries to key players, which certainly effected how we played,” said head coach Paul Seibert.
“We have a really good team this year and we can go really far, so we really had to pull it together and we ended up doing that to win and now we’re going on and it’s really exciting,” pitcher/third baseman Aubrey Reynolds said.
Marquette has never won a regional championship in school history, and they are determined to bring one home this year.
“I really want this for our team. I think we have a really good shot if we’re all in it, we’re all doing our best. As long as we play our best, I believe we can get this. We just have to want it,” said Reynolds.
“That was certainly one of our goals, to get this far. And I guess our last main goal that we set for the season was to win regionals so that’s our goal,” Seibert said.
Marquette will face Saginaw Heritage in the regional semi–finals. That game will start at 10 a.m. on the campus of Saginaw Valley State.
