Red Wings hire associate coach

The Detroit Red Wings announced today the hiring of Tom Renney, to a 3-year contract.
Renney replaces Jeff Blashill, who was given the head coaching gig with the Wings American League Hockey Affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Renney comes to Detroit with plenty of coaching experience. He has been a head coach with three different NHL Franchises (Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers, & Edmonton Oilers).

The Renney will primarily work with the offensive players. Last season in Edmonton, Renney’s Oilers had a solid power play success rate (20.6%), good enough for third place in the league.
