Red Wings re-sign Quincey, Sheahan

The first day of free agency proved to be a relatively quiet one for the Detroit Red Wings.

Detroit re-signed defenseman Kyle Quincey to a 2-year deal. Quincey’s new deal is said to be worth $8.5 million. The Red Wings were not able to sign other free agent defensemen Dan Boyle (New York Rangers) and Christian Ehrhoff (Pittsburgh Penguins).

The Red Wings also agreed to a two-year extension with forward Riley Sheahan. He will make just under two million dollars over the next two seasons. Sheahan scored nine goals and added 15 assists last season in 42 games played during his rookie year with the Wings.

Detroit also signed free agent forward Kevin Porter to a one-year, two-way deal. Porter will most likely start the 2014-15 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Goaltender Petr Mrazek, who is the starting goaltender for the Griffins, received a one-year extension on Tuesday.
