Recycle Your Old Fridge

If you have an older refrigerator at home, maybe an extra one in your garage or basement, it might be running up your electric bill.

And it can also let greenhouse gases from the insulation into the air.

Pauline Popko of Marquette Township had an old fridge hauled away this morning.

A Georgia company arranged a free pick–up.

The fridge is disabled and taken to a recycling center in the Lower Peninsula.

95 percent of the materials in a fridge can be recycled.

A 20–year–old fridge uses nearly 3 times as much energy as a new one.

And recycling one removes as much carbon dioxide emissions from the air as removing 2 cars from the road for a year.

The fridge you’re getting rid of has to be in working order and from 10 to 30 cubic feet in size.
