A Houghton County family is picking up the pieces after a house fire shattered their lives.
But the family isn’t alone.
At about 2:30 Tuesday morning, the Bastian residence on Pewabic Street in Laurium exploded twice and was gutted by a devastating fire.
Everything the family owned was destroyed.
However, John Bastian says that if it hadn’t been for his neighbor, Joe Goulette, he and his family may not have made it out of the burning house alive.
John says Joe came through the door and started to wake everyone up.
John isn’t sure where he and his family will turn for help, but the Copper Country is already rushing to their aid — he says his wife works at the Walmart store in Houghton and store management is helping them.
