The effort to recall three members of the Ishpeming City Council from office is reaching a city shopping center this weekend.
Organizers are holding a recall petition signing rally at the Country Village this Saturday. Last year, Police Chief Jim Bjorne was denied a service time transfer request that would have allowed him to retire with a full pension. He was fired in September. Supporters of Bjorne are targeting city council members Elaine Racine, Claudia Demarest and Mike Tall. The recall petition needs at least 487 verified signatures from Ishpeming voters to get onto the may ballot. Jim Bjorne’s brother in law Bob Clark says He and others want at least 600 people to sign. The rally will be at Country Village’s former laundromat, next to Radio Shack, from 11-5pm on Saturday. Clark says you can also call 485 –5361.
Organizers can make alternate arrangements for you if you can’t make it to the signing.
