Rae Drake named Westwood boys basketball coach

Rae Drake has been named the new head coach of the Westwood boys varsity basketball program. ABC 10 Sports was able to confirm the hiring Monday afternoon.

Drake is no stranger to the world of coaching. He has spent the last thirty 32 years roaming the sidelines both as a head coach and assistant coach. Drake spent 14 years at Iron Mountain (1982-96) as an assistant coach, before he became head coach of the boys varsity basketball team at West Iron County in 1996.

After a stint with the Wykons (96-05), Drake was an assistant coach at Michigan Tech for both Kevin Luke and Kim Cameron for six seasons. Drake was also an assistant coach for Troy Mattson and the NMU women’s basketball program during the 2012-13 season.

Drake replaces Ryan Reichel at Westwood. Reichel resigned as the head coach of the program in March after three seasons with the program.
