Race Weekend Trails in Great Shape

One thing that many of us wonder at times about the U.P. 200 — is there enough snow on the ground to supply downtown Marquette with a packed cover?

It’s been a problem for the U.P. 200 some years.

But even with the recent thaw that pushed temperatures into the mid-40s for a while, organizers say it won’t be a problem this time.

The trail conditions should be as good as the races have ever had.

As usual for the race weekend, many of the streets in downtown Marquette are blocked off to through traffic to get part of the course ready and then actually start the 200.

Washington Street is shut down from Lakeshore Boulevard to Fifth Street until 2am Saturday.

Fourth Street is also closed from Spring Street to Bluff Street.

Lakeshore Boulevard is shut down from Baraga Avenue to Washington Street.

Front Street is off-limits from Baraga to Bluff Street.

Third Street is also closed from Spring Street to Bluff.

The re-openings of all those streets will vary.

Finally, the northbound lane of South Lake Street is closed fron US-41 to Hampton Avenue until 10:00 tonight.

As in the past, you’ll still be able to get around on those streets on foot.
