Public Help Needed in Watershed Project

The public is being asked to join in creating a management plan for the Pilgrim River watershed.

The Houghton/Keweenaw Conservation District has been awarded a grant from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Agency for the project. The grant was for $51,000, which would have to be matched.

Chair of the Houghton/Keweenaw Conservation District and Pilgrim River Watershed Management Plan Advisory Commission Member Gina Nicholas says the approval of their plan would mean more opportunities for further grants.

An advisory committee will be formed with members of the community and graduate students from Michigan Tech to design the plan for the use of the watershed.
