Protest at GOP Headquarters

Protest at GOP Headquarters

Mitt Romney will receive the Republican nomination for president tonight.

However, some area residents launched a preemptive protest of the Romney–Ryan ticket this afternoon.

Good Jobs Michigan picketed outside Marquette County Republican headquarters.

They wanted to call attention to their belief that a Romney victory would mean protecting the wealthiest Americans at the expense of everyone else.

Gwinn resident Zelda Ziemer says she and others from the U.P. went to the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

The Marquette County Republicans placed signs of their own in their office windows.

One of them read, ‘You Are the 49%’, referring to the 49% of Americans who do not pay federal income taxes.

Marquette County Republican chair Dan Adamini says this segment of the population contributes nothing to the economy and absorbs what the Americans who do pay federal income tax contribute.

He says he’s happy to have the protestors, claiming they’re not doing the Democrats any good.

Most Americans in that 49% group either have incomes that are too low to rise above the standard deduction and personal exemption amounts, have their tax burdens lessened by credits aimed at families and children, or are seniors — many seniors’ Social Security benefits are exempt from the federal income tax.

Another sign also told the protesters, ‘Occupy A Job’.
