Prosecuting attorney’s suspension modified

CALUMET — An Upper Peninsula prosecuting attorney has had the conditions of her suspension from practicing law modified.

The Michigan Attorney Discipline Board filed an order last week to increase the suspension of Keweenaw County Prosecuting Attorney Donna Jaaskelainen from 179 days to 180 days. In addition to the extra day of suspension, Jaaskelainen has now been ordered to enter a two-year monitoring agreement with the Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program.

Jaaskelainen was suspended effective March 18th after a hearing panel found she had neglected three legal matters in her private practice in violation of various sections of the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct and Michigan Court Rules. According to ADB records, the Discipline Board’s Grievance Administrator was seeking a full year suspension during review of the case.
