Proposed radioactive waste site delayed

ONTARIO, Canada — Plans for a possible dump site for radioactive waste near the Canadian shores of Lake Huron have been delayed.

Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change has requested additional information and further studies be done on the Deep Geologic Repository project proposed by Ontario Power Generation. OPG will need to provide a schedule for fulfilling the information request by April 18th.

The project has come under fire from federal and state legislators, some of whom consider the facility to be a threat to the Great Lakes environment. Click here for more information about the project from the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.
