ISHPEMING — The sixth annual Project Feed A Neighbor will be starting soon and there’s plenty of work to be done.

Project Feed A Neighbor’s goal is to keep to local food pantries shelves full.

“Last year our food collection was probably as large as it’s ever been,” said volunteer Dick Derby, “and people ask about that and they say ‘well how much does this bring in’ and it was over nine thousand pounds last year and in saying that it’s a great thing to celebrate, but it’s never quite enough. The client list continues to grow.”

To keep up with the growing demand, Project Feed a Neighbor will be featuring a new competition to increase the amount of food that they collect.

“Ishpeming and Westwood High School are going to have an inter-school competition to collect food for Project Feed A Neighbor in the schools. A traveling trophy is being put together to celebrate that event and all of that food will be distributed again to the Salvation Army and St. Vincent De Paul stores.”
