Prisoner back in custody after brief escape

NEWBERRY — A prisoner at the Newberry Correctional Facility is back in custody after an escape early Tuesday morning.

Officials from the Michigan Department of Corrections say 19-year old Alize Montague was apprehended around 4:00 a.m. about a mile away from the prison. Montague climbed over the facility’s fence just after 2:00 a.m. and crossed M-123. He was immediately pursued by corrections officers both on foot and in security vehicles.

He is now back in the custody of the Department of Corrections. Montague was serving a ten year sentence out of Monroe County.
