Hundreds of Houghton County residents woke up this morning without power.

According to UPPCO’s website, more than 600 customers were affected, mostly in the Atlantic Mine area.

Those outages were largely due to the weather.

A power outage of a different kind blacked out the City of Houghton and the surrounding area to the south for over two hours beginning Sunday night and lasting into the early morning.

According to an UPPCO twitter feed, the loss of power occurred due to a transmission pole fire.

UPPCO crews were quickly dispatched to the scene, which took out power for the majority of Houghton County customers south of the Portage Lift Bridge.
