Rogue squirrel causes power outage in city

UPDATE — 10:30 a.m. September 25, 2015 (EST)

Tom Carpenter of the Marquette Board of Light and power says that the power outage this morning in the city of Marquette was caused by a rogue rodent.

According to Carpenter, a squirrel got into a substation and caused an electrical fault. The power outage lasted about 35 minutes. The outage left 4,834 customers without power for a brief time.


MARQUETTE — Power in the city of Marquette has been restored after a brief outage this morning. Just after 8:30 a.m., Northern Michigan University and the Marquette County Courthouse were among the buildings that lost power. Traffic lights in the area were also without power.

A representative at the Marquette Board Light and Power says that power has been restored in the area.
