Power outage in Houghton

UPDATE: 1:30 p.m.

Residents of Houghton were without power this morning due to an automobile accident.

A vehicle drove into a power pole on Frederick Street in the Hurontown area at around 7:15 this morning. The collision caused power lines to hit each other, tripping the electrical system. This left about 1,000 customers in eastern Houghton without power.

UPPCO says that power was able to be restored to the Houghton area within 90 minutes.

A car accident has knocked out electricity for about 1,000 customers in the eastern part of Houghton this morning.

Integrys Energy Group officials say the outage happened at about 7:15 a.m. when a car hit a utility pole. Repair crews are on site, and the company doesn’t expect power to be out for the affected customers for an extended period. However, that will depend on the severity of the damage to the pole.
