Postal Service Wants to Sell Marquette Post Office

The U.S. Postal Service wants to sell the Marquette post office building on Washington Street.

If the building is sold, the Postal Service would rent space in either that same building or another one nearby to keep providing service.

The Postal Service says in a press release that it’s facing a critical period in its history.

The agency says it’s facing unsustainable deficits from the economic downturn due to a drastic decline in mail volume and resulting loss of revenue.

The Postal Service is trying to cut costs by selling some of its buildings, renting the retail space that those offices currently hold and moving letter carriers to other post offices with more workroom capacity.
