HOUGHTON — With the Portage Lake Lift Bridge Rehab Project set to begin this month, some preliminary work will be done starting this Sunday that will cause some delays.

The work will be done this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday between the times of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. The delays will be sporadic, lasting anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes. Dan Weingarten from MDOT say the contractor will be conducting some necessary prep work in advance of the project.

“They’re going to be doing some lifting of the bridge span to check on how its balanced and they’re also going to be looking at the motors on the bridge and just getting some calibration,” Weingarten said.

MDOT officials would also like to remind residents about the public forum that will be going on next Thursday night at Michigan Tech.

“It’s a chance for everybody in the general public to come and talk to MDOT officials and the contractor, get questions answered, find out more about the project,” said Weingarten.

The meeting will be at Fisher Hall from 6 to 8. More information on the repair project can be found on the MDOT website at michigan.gov/mdot.
