Portage Health Seeking Partner
Big changes are coming to Portage Health in Hancock.
At a Community Update Luncheon today at Michigan Tech, Portage Health President and CEO Jim Bogan outlined a plan to seek a partner for the health system.
The partnership would be with another health care provider who would take majority ownership in Portage Health but still allow the hospital to govern itself.
With the hospital excelling at patient services and financial management, Bogan believes Portage Health can negotiate with a potential partner from a position of strength.
With the growing struggles that health care providers face and the oncoming uncertainty of the affects of the Affordable Care Act, Bogan says now is the time to bring in a strong partner.
A merger with another successful health care system will reportedly provide more access to care for Copper Country residents.
An agreement with a partner is expected sometime before the end of 2013.
