MARQUETTE — As of 12:00 p.m. Friday, a popular wintertime activity is back in business in the city of Marquette.
The ice rink at the Marquette Commons facility is open for ice skating. The rink is open Thursdays through Sundays from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Myra Zyburt of the Marquette Downtown Development Authority says the rink is a part of what makes downtown Marquette so special this time of the year.
“We are so fortunate living in Marquette and having an ice rink in the middle of downtown where you can skate and then enjoy all of the other amenities that our down here, like our restaurants and businesses,” said Zyburt.
“When it first starts getting cold people start asking, ‘When will the ice be ready?’ It’s an outdoor rink so it’s weather dependent. We were able now, with the help of this lovely cold weather, to get the ice made, get it cleared off and we’re ready to enjoy the outdoors in downtown Marquette,” added Zyburt.
The Marquette DDA says the rink is available for skating other days and hours as well, but the warming house may not be open and groomed ice is not guaranteed. You do need to bring your own pair of skates to skate on the rink.
