Police warn of phone scam involving schools

HARRIS — A new phone scam is making the rounds in the area, and this one involves schools.

Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post say they have received complaints about a scammer who claims to be calling on behalf of the local school’s “Education Association.” The caller, whom police describe as a man with a “middle eastern accent,” attempts to solicit funds from the scam victim.

Bark River-Harris Schools Superintendent Jason Lockwood told police that his school is one that has been targeted by this scam. He advised that local school boards will not be calling to solicit funding, as they have more appropriate venues to raise any needed funds.
