Police use hovercraft to rescue three on ice

Gladstone Public Safety utilized a hovercraft to rescue three ATV riders over the weekend.

Officers say they were dispatched to the area of Saunders Point on Little Bay de Noc shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Two people operating an ATV had gone through the ice, and a third who had not fallen through was also stranded on the ice.

Gladstone Public Safety deployed their department’s hovercraft to rescue the two subjects who had fallen through, and also used the craft to guide the third subject safely back to shore.

Police have not released names or conditions for any of the ATV riders.

Gladstone Public Safety was assisted on scene by the Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Delta County Search and Rescue and Ensign Fire Department.
