Police urge residents to use caution when chatting online

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP — The Chocolay Township Police Department wants to warn residents, especially young teenage girls, to use caution when chatting online and to not respond to requests from unknown individuals.

Police report there have been an increase in online “sexual predator type” complaints from subjects using chat sites like Kik, ASK.fm, and even Facebook.

Police recommend that chat site users refrain from linking their user names to their own person Facebook or Myspace account, where a predator could learn more about them.
