A suspect is in custody in the Houghton County Jail following a car and foot chase over the weekend.

Troopers from the Calumet Post say Andrew Heikkila ran from officers who attempted to pull him over for speeding.

Heikkila reportedly sped off through Hurontown and Houghton.

After he jumped out of the vehicle, police chased him through a park and apprehended him with the help of a taser.

Heikkila is facing felony fleeing and eluding, operating while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license and also had a bench warrant for child support.

He is due back in court on June 6th.

The troopers were assisted at the scene by Houghton Police, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan Tech Public Safety and the Michigan State Police K-9 unit.
