Police investigate damaged GEMS memorial

MARQUETTE COUNTY — An investigation has been launched in southern Marquette County after a memorial stone at a DNR Grouse Enhanced Management Site was found damaged.

Officials with the DNR say sometime between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm last Friday, the memorial stone was knocked off its pedestal after the base was struck, evidently by a vehicle. DNR staff found a blue paint scrape and an impact mark from either black plastic or rubber.

The stone was dedicated to Bill Rollo, a DNR technician, who died suddenly at 40 years old back in January.

Call Lt. Pete Wright at the DNR office at (906) 228-6561 or the Forsyth Township Police at (906) 346-9224 to report any information you have on the incident.
