Houghton County is going forward with plans to apply for a grant to help redevelop a site for a new grocery store.
The new Louie’s Super Foods would be built off of US-41 in Osceola Township where an old gas station currently remains. Since the area is contaminated, a grant from the Department of Environmental Quality could be used to clean up the land. A resolution to apply for the grant and enter into a loan agreement with the DEQ was approved by the Board of Commissioners at their December meeting following a public hearing on the matter.
The new grocery store would employ approximately 50 people and construction would begin in 2012, if the money is awarded.
