The Negaunee Police Department is warning people of a phone scam.

Over the past few days the police department has received a number of calls about a potential phone scam from a group called the “diabetes club”.

The caller asks if the person answering the call is diabetic.

The shiest-er then offers testing supplies or a free test meter, requesting insurance and medicare information.

The calls have been traced to the Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina areas as well as California.

If you get a call like this, police say it is important to remember

If the caller won’t answer or avoids your questions– you should hang up immediately.

Don’t give out any information such as checking, savings or any other account information over the phone to people you do not know.

If you have given out that information you need to contact your local bank asap to stop charges from going through.

And finally if an offer seems to good to be true it most likely is.
