Phone scam targets Forsyth Township residents

The Forsyth Township Police Department reports it’s received several calls regarding a new phone scam working through the area.

The scammers are calling senior citizens and telling them they are either the police or an attorney in Europe. They tell the victim that one of their grandchildren got in to trouble while traveling abroad and now need money wired for bail. The scammers go as far as putting a younger person on the line to tell the victim that it is in fact their grandchild. They request that the money be sent via Western Union to expedite the legal process.

Police are telling people who receive these calls to confirm all information with their family members regarding a grandchild traveling abroad before taking more action or sending money.
