A celebration was held this afternoon to honor one of the last remaining Pearl Harbor survivors in the Upper Peninsula.
Friends, family and other community members came together this afternoon at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee to honor one of the true heroes of the community.
92-year-old Merton Holman had a first-hand account of the events on December 7th, 1941.
He says he was less than 100 yards away from the airfield.
When the attack began, he and his brother were brushing their teeth.
Holman says they both wondered what all the noise was outside, and when they went outside to look, the sky was full of planes with the Japanese rising-sun symbol on them.
A small ceremony including a moment of silence for those who perished at pearl harbor.
