Pasty Central Day in History, February 26th
John Harvey Kellogg was born on this day in 1852. A Michigan boy, John became a surgeon with a special interest in developing healthier foods.
One day in a clinic in Battle Creek, Michigan while experimenting with a batch of cooked wheat, it was accidentally left out and dried. Rather then throw it away, John and his brother William passed the wheat through rollers creating thin flakes. Thus Kellogg cereal was born in 1894.
That was also the year the Luce county sheriff residence was built in Newberry, Michigan. Saved from the wreckers ball in the 1970’s, the Queen Anne style mansion today houses the Luce County Historical Museum. Pasty Central Day in History, February 26th.
