Passing motorist saves the life of a young girl

GLADSTONE — A 62-year-old woman is being credited for helping save the life of an 11-year-old girl.

At approximately 3:13 p.m. Saturday, Gladstone Public Safety responded to the Gladstone Yacht Harbor to rescue a girl who had fallen into the open water. The 11-year-old girl was with a group of friends when she fell into the water.

The incident happened near Lake Shore Drive. A passing motorist, identified as a 62-year-old Brampton woman, saw a group of people in a panic and stopped to ask what was going on.

Upon learning what happened, the woman drove to the harbor parking lot. She saw the young girl trying to hold onto the dock. The woman was able to grab onto the girl and hold her until help arrived.

After she fell in the water, the young girl was able to grab a pole that had a De-Icer attached to it. She was able to get a foot on the De-Icer, which kept her from going under.

The girl was released to her mother after undergoing a medical evaluation.
